Babe Ruth
American baseball legend George
Herman ΓÇ£BabeΓÇ¥ Ruth was born in
1895. He started his career as a
pitcher and outfielder for the Boston
Braves in 1914. Later that year, he
joined the Boston Red Sox which
went on to defeat the Chicago Cubs
in the World Series of 1918.
But his career truly took off when
he moved to the New York Yankees
in 1920. In the following year, he hit
59 home runs and had audiences
flock to his games in such numbers
that the new Yankee stadium was
dubbed ΓÇ£The House that Ruth BuiltΓÇ¥.
1927 was the greatest year of all,
when he set the famous record of 60
home runs in one 154-game season.
Babe Ruth went on to play in 10
World Series and hit a career total of
714 home runs, a record unbroken
until 1974. He died in 1948.
